When you upload or stream a video Motvio, your video will be converted to other resolutions to ensure successful playback on different devices and different networks.

The resolutions your video converts to will depend largely on if the larger dimension or the smaller dimension of your source video meets the minimum requirements noted for each resolution below.

These conversion specifications apply for videos that you upload as well as videos that were streamed live and archived, although please note that archived live videos will not exceed 1080p60.

Notes for all conversions:

The bitrates listed for each resolution are a maximum. This means your video could transcode at a lower bitrate depending on the complexity of the image. For example, a video with a lot of still images will have a lower bitrate than a video with a lot of fast-paced motion.

Regarding framerates:

  • If the source file uploaded is 60fps, we will transcode both a 30fps and 60fps playback file for 1080p resolutions and higher (e.g. 2K, 4K). This is to ensure backward compatibility on devices that cannot play 60fps.
  • 720p60 source files will only receive a 60fps conversion as 720p60 is ubiquitous enough that it should be playable anywhere.
  • Generally, we transcode to 30fps unless otherwise noted.

The audio sample rate for all conversions is 48kHz.
